Searching Cicero Civil Court Records Online

Cook County has its own online case search portal separate from the statewide Judici system. You can find it at cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/online-case-information. No account is needed to search. You can look up cases by name, case number, or court call. Civil, chancery, law, domestic relations, and probate cases are all searchable through the portal.

The clerk notes that the online database is "the electronic docket which contains brief summaries of court documents and court events in a particular case." It is not the official court record. The paper file at the courthouse is the official record. If you need the full file or certified copies, you visit the clerk in person. For very recent filings, it may take a few days before records show up in the online system.

What Civil Court Records in Cicero Contain

Civil court records filed in Cicero cases hold a lot of detail. Each file starts with basic case information: the case number, the names of all parties, the case type, and the date it was filed. The docket is a running log of everything that happened in the case. Each entry lists a date, a description of the event, and any orders entered.

The full case file contains the actual documents. You will find the complaint or petition that started the case, answers filed by the other party, motions, court orders, and the final judgment. Some cases also include exhibits and transcripts. Chancery cases may have detailed injunction orders. Law division cases have money judgments. Domestic relations cases have custody and support orders. All of these are part of the civil court records held by Cook County for cases filed from Cicero.

Not all records are open. Sealed cases are off limits by court order. Juvenile and adoption records are not public. Personal information like Social Security numbers and bank details is redacted. Expunged records are also restricted. But for most standard civil matters, the record is available to anyone who asks, under 705 ILCS 105/16(6), which says court records are public and open for inspection during office hours.

Filing a Civil Case in Cicero

All civil filings in Cicero go through the Illinois mandatory eFiling system, eFileIL, at efile.illinoiscourts.gov. This rule covers new cases, motions, responses, and all other court documents. The system is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You do not have to wait for courthouse hours to submit your papers.

To use eFileIL, you register an account and then file through an approved Electronic Filing Service Provider (EFSP). Each EFSP is an independent website that collects your documents and sends them to the court. After you submit, the clerk's office reviews and either accepts or rejects the filing. You get an electronic timestamp and a notice either way.

Some people are exempt from the eFiling requirement. You do not have to efile if you are incarcerated, if you are filing a will, if you have a disability that stops you from eFiling, or if a judge grants you a good cause exemption. Juvenile filings are also exempt. If you are not sure whether you qualify for an exemption, call the clerk's office at (312) 603-5030 before you try to file. Court forms for civil cases are available at services.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/Forms.
