What DuPage County Civil Court Records Contain
Civil court records in DuPage County hold detailed information about each case. The file starts with the complaint or petition that opened the case, followed by the names of all parties, the case number assigned by the clerk, and the date of filing. The docket lists every event that has happened in the case, including hearings, motions filed, orders entered, and deadlines set by the judge.
The actual case file holds the documents. You will find the original complaint, any counterclaims, responses, and motions. Exhibits attached to filings may be there too. Court orders and final judgments are part of the official record. If the case went to trial, transcripts can be ordered through the court reporter's office at (630) 407-8927. Certified copies of judgments are often needed for other legal purposes, and DuPage County civil court records can supply those.
Under 705 ILCS 105/16(6), the clerk must keep a public docket open at all times during office hours. Most civil records are open to the public. Exceptions include juvenile case records, adoption files, and records sealed by court order. Sensitive personal data like Social Security numbers is redacted from public copies. Expunged records are not available to the public.
